Smartphones are indeed a boon. The devices we used to make calls and send messages a few years back, had transformed itself into an inseparable part of our body, doing almost every technology related operation we demands. But what exactly does the millions of Smartphone users around the world do with their devices?

Apps And Web


The mobile web use is exploding each and every day. According to a recent report from Nielsen, a research and analytics firm, the time people spent per month on apps got more than doubled from March 2011 to March 2012. Now, almost all the time consuming mobile activities like games, social networks, and music are accessed through apps. Time spent on the mobile web was basically flat.   



Most Popular Mobile Activity


Games and social networking are still the most popular mobile phone activities.  According to latest data from ComScore, 37 percent of all Smartphone users in the U.S. accessed social networks in mobile phones in May and 34 percent of all users have played games, both are double digit increase over two years.


Mobile Shopping Is Exploding


The mobile commerce around the globe is on the rise, especially in U.S. with an expected $10 billion spending. In 2010, it was just $6 billion. Moreover, 89 percent of the Smartphone users use their devices while they do shopping outside, to check product reviews, see marketing campaigns, researches and mobile payments.


Content Explosion


Out of all, over 60 percent of the Smartphone owners access news content on their devices. The people who stream and listen to music in phones had more than doubled in two years and the digital consumers read more books in devices than their print counterparts.


Future


According to BI Analytics, “there is plenty more growth to come,” as the Smartphones have not yet penetrated half of the population. On comparison, still there are six basic phones for every Smartphone.
