recent, 5 inch phones were a domain of Samsung or low costing brands.
But with biggies entering the market, it’s time to look at what we have
in store for the future. Apart from these top brands, Zopo and Huawei
will also launch their 5-inch Smartphones in Indian markets soon. Let’s
take a look at these upcoming quad-core 5-inch Smartphones, as compiled
by The Mobile Indian.
Sony Xperia ZL
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro

Besides Xperia Z, Sony has also revealed Xperia ZL which will come with Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHz Krait processor along with Adreno 320 graphics and 2 GB of RAM. The device will operate on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
The Smartphone holds an internal storage capacity of 16 GB which is expandable up to 64 GB with microSD card. It has a non-removable battery of 2, 330 mAh.
The unibody design features all possible connectivity options namely HSPA+”>HSPA+, LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC and FM radio. The phones distinct design has a thicker profile with a smaller footprint and is lighter on comparison with Xperia Z.
However, the price is not announced as yet but Xperia ZL is expected to be at least 3 - 5,000 cheaper than Xperia Z and is likely to arrive soon.
Sony Xperia Z

Sony’s first 5 inch display, Xperia Z comes with a 1.5GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The device is massive enough to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean flawlessly, with its 2 GB RAM.
The new device features a 5-inch HD reality display, with Mobile Bravia Engine 2 with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. The back panel of Xperia Z has a 13 megapixel camera that carries the Exmore RS image sensor which also enables HDR videos for clear video recording. The camera enables recording full 1080p HD videos as well.
The phone supports faster data connectivity with 4G LTE and also features Near Field Communication chip that is compatible with Sony’s other NFC enabled accessories.
The Xperia Z is 7.9 mm slim and is constructed using tempered glass and anti-shatter film on both sides. The phone is IP55 and IP67 certified which means that it is dust resistant and waterproof. The new OmniBalance design offers subtle rounded edges and smooth reflective corners giving a slick look and feel to the phone.
Xperia is expected to launch in India very soon and will be priced at a hefty amount of 45, 000.
HTC Butterfly

The Droid DNA of the west has finally come to India in the form of HTC Butterfly. The Smartphone seems to be competing with Samsung Galaxy S III, iPhone 5 and Sony Xperia Z.
Featuring a 1.5 GHz, Qualcomm quad-core processor and paired with 2 GB of RAM, the device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
The Smartphone has an expandable SD card slot in addition to 25 GB of free cloud storage for two years.
The 5-inch super LCD3 display has a resolution of 1920 X 1080p with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and 441 pixels per inch - the highest in the industry. The device packs an 8.o megapixel camera at the rear and a 2.0 front camera for video chat. What highlights the drawback here it the battery capacity which is of 2020 mAH.

Micromax Canvas HD A116
Processor: MediaTek MT6589
5 inch HD display with 1280 x 720p resolution
Micromax had launched it 5 inch Canvas II A110 sometime back gaining popularity among users. The Indian handset maker has now announced its 5 inch Canvas HD A116 which is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad core MediaTek MT6589 processor. The device runs Android Jelly Bean operating system with 1 GB RAM. The internal storage of the phone is 4 GB and can expand up to 32 GB through a micro SD card.
Packed with a 5 inch display of 720p the screen boasts of HD with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It flaunts with dual SIM cameras as well, which includes an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front unit.
The phones connectivity features 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 (b/g/n), Bluetooth and GPS/A-GPS. However, the phone’s battery power is only 2100 mAh which is a drawback here.
As with the brand, Micromax products are available at much cheaper rate than products from MNC brands. The Canvas HD A116 I is available at 15, 000 and is expected to hit the shelves in the first week of February.
LG Optimus G Pro
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro
5 inch HD- IPS with 1920 x 1080 p resolution
LG has announced another 5 inch Optimus G Smartphone, called G Pro. Powered by a 1.7 GHz quad core Snapdragon processor, the device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with a RAM of 2 GB. The internal storage capacity is 32 GB with a microSD card support for further expansion to accompany ample internal storage. The phone also boasts of a high capacitive battery of 3000 mAh.
The LG Optimus G Pro, despite its large screen has a very slim profile, measuring 139 mm x 70mm x 10 mm. This means that it is 8 mm shorter, 6.5 mm less wide than Micromax Canvas II which has a 5 inch screen measuring 147 x 76.5 x 9.7 mm.
All the other goodies you’d expect are there in the Optimus G Pro that’s including Blutooth 4.0, infrared NFC, and mobile wallet and also high speed LTE.
The handset is available in Platinum white and Indigo Black but does not seem to be coming before April, this year.
